Phulkari, a type of embroidery that focuses on floral patterns is found in the Punjab region of India. It dates back to the 15th century and utilises bright colours with contrasting backgrounds to provide attractive dresses. The fabric usually utilised for this particular embroidery is called khaddar, with the most common colours being white, red, black and blue. The thickness of threads in the embroidery determines the fineness and the price of a phulkari piece, with thinner threads showing finer work.
